Dental Implants
Dental Implants are an accepted method for replacing missing teeth. Most implants used today are root form implants that integrate into the surrounding bone. By most opinions they are 95% successful and can enhance the quality of life.
- A Comprehensive Examination and consultation by the restorative dentist and the surgeon is the necessary first step.
- The evaluation process will determine the amount and type of bone available – this includes dental x-rays, 3D cone beam/CAT Scan technology, etc.
- If there is insufficient bone available, enhancement techniques may be required such as bone grafting and sinus elevation.
- The surgeon will evaluate the patient to determine if they are a candidate for immediate post extraction implant placement, delayed immediate post extraction implant placement (2 weeks to 3 months after extraction), delayed implant placement (greater than 3 months post extraction).
- In many cases a wax up will be required to determine the future position of the implant(s) and a surgical guide will be made by the restorative dentist in consultation with the surgeon.
- After appropriate healing time the restorative dentist will take impressions to send to the approved dental lab for fabrication of the implant supported crown, bridge, or reconstruction.
- Dental Implants are made of pure grade titanium – however, zirconium implants are now being placed in special cases.
- Dental implants are a team effort – Surgeon (Periodontist, Oral Maxillofacial surgeon), Restorative Dentist, and a highly skilled Dental Laboratory Technician/Cermanist
